Boise State (3-1) scored early and often in Charlottesville on Friday night. Passing was the weapon of choice and Boise dominated totaling 358 yards through the air to Virginia’s 233. Neither team could get the run going The Broncos gained 89 yards with 69 credited to Jeremy McNichols while the Cavaliers (1-3) gained picked up just 40 yards on 33 carries. Taquan Mizzell had one of the lone highlights of the night for the Wahoos when he scored on a 45-yard touchdown reception from Matt Johns. T.J. Thorpe made his debut at receiver for UVA and scored on a 75-yard touchdown catch himself. Johns had a tough night apart from those plays and completed just 12 of 25 passes for 199 yards and three interceptions.

Running back Shaquille Powell carried the ball 14 times for Duke (3-1, 1-0) and gained 88 yards including three touchdowns to upset ranked ACC foe Georgia Tech (2-2, 0-1). The Duke defense frustrated the triple option attack all day, and the Blue Devils gave up just 173 yards on 60 carries ( ). Parick Skov led the way with 75 yards on 19 carries. Quarterback Justin Thomas picked up only 58 yards on 25 rushes and threw for 143 yards on 6 of 21 completions. Those included a touchdown and an interception. Thomas Sirk fizzled as well, passing for 114 yards on 17 of 25 completions. He threw for two touchdowns and a pick plus Sirk picked up 52 yards rushing.

The Syracuse (3-1) defense did all it could to keep the Orange in the game until the end, but LSU’s Leonard Fournette who asserted himself as the most dynamic running back in the country. The sophomore ran for a career-high 244 yards and two touchdowns and also had a blazing 89-yard touchdown run up the middle called back due to a penalty. Fournette now has 631 yards through three games. That’s 8.6 yards per carry with eight touchdowns. He had to put the Tigers on his back because ‘Cuse played tough. Former walk-on Zach Mahoney made the start at quarterback for Syracuse and threw for three touchdowns despite a spotty first half. He passed for 154 yards and ran for another 40.

North Carolina 41

Delaware (1-3) hung around early, but Carolina (3-1) had far too much firepower for the FCS Blue Hens. Delaware’s Thomas Jefferson opened the day’s scoring with a 72-yard touchdown run and the game was tied at seven after the first quarter. UNC was able to stretch the lead in the second half largely behind Mitch Trubisky who completed 17 of 20 passes for 312 yards and four touchdowns. Mack Hollins had three catches for 100 yards, Ryan Switzer had five for 89 and Quinshad Davis finsihed with five for 83. Hollins had two touchdown catches and Switzer had one. Elijah Hood led the Tar Heel rushing attack with 61 yards.

Wake Forest 24

Indiana (4-0) has won four games in a row, giving the Hoosier program its longest winning streak in 28 years. Jordan Howard ran for 168 yards and a touchdown on 33 carries and Nate Sudfeld completed 19 of 34 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns to lift Indiana. Wake Forest (2-2, 0-1) got a mixed bag from freshman Kendall Hinton in his first career start. He ran for two touchdowns and threw for another, while accounting for 302 total yards. Wake’s rushing woes from 2014 have resurfaced. They ran for just 99 yards while IU racked up 211.

BC’s Jon Hilliman finally got in the groove and ran for 119 yards with a touchdown to help lift an ailing Eagles (3-1) club to the win. Troy Flutie threw for 92 yards, with an interception and a touchdown. Backup quarterback Jeff Smith chipped in 56 yards rushing. Northern Illinois (2-2) couldn’t get much going with just 153 yards of total offense. The huskies did get an 86-yard kick return for a touchdown from Aregeros Turner.

Defensive lapses cost the Hokies (2-2) dearly in this game as Tech fell short by a touchdown. It was a rain-soaked affair in Greenville, and that forced both coaching staffs to run their quarterbacks. After two quick turnovers turned into a 14-0 Tech lead, Blake Kemp rallied to tie the game, then ECU (2-2) inserted mobile threat James Summers. Summers torched the Hokies for 169 yards and two touchdowns on the ground and 110 yards and another score on just 5 of 10 passing. Brenden Motley carried 19 times for 85 yards and a touchdown for the Hokies and completed 20 of 35 for 281 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Isaiah Ford caught eight passes for 95 yards

It was quarterback Lamar Jackson who did the bulk of the damage this time. Jackson rushed for 184 yards and two touchdowns. He also completed 15 of 22 passes for 212 yards, a touchdown and a pick. Reggie Bonnafon also saw action for the Cardinals (1-3) and completed 3 of 6 for 62 yards and an interception. He also rushed for 26. “I like Reggie being on the field,” Bobby Petrino said. “When they’re on the field together, we’re a faster football team.” Bonnafon has been playing a kind of H-back, or receiver role similar to Braxton Miller at Ohio State. He played receiver for most of high school.

South Alabama 13

NC State is 4-0 after destroying South Alabama. Matthew Dayes gained 104 yards and three touchdowns on eight carries and Shadrach Thronton had 111 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries. Jacoby Brissett completed 18 of 23 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns. State amassed 586 total yards against the overmatched Jaguars and limited USA to just 45 yards on the ground. Jaylen Samuels had five catches for 84 yards and two touchdowns. Dayes had five catches for 46 yards. The Wolfpack now starts conference play with a hungry Louisville team. Will the gaudy non-conference stats transfer over to ACC games?
