Obviously a student shouldn’t go to a college solely because they have good sports but most majors are available at most large schools. Sports are one reason they students learn of or become interested in colleges, it’s simply a fact.
Take Alabama for example, many kids from NC go to U of Alabama to go to college each year. Why do they chose Alabama over the literally hundreds of other colleges of similar academic profiles and prices? Various reasons but many, if not most, NC kids learned about and became interested in Alabama because the publicity generated by football. The Flutie effect.
