I once worked for a company in which every time something went south

we blamed it on the guy that had last left the company. That way those of us still around didn’t have to take any blame. Hell, we even once blamed the loss of a major account on a guy that had just died of a massive heart attack while on the job and working his ass off. Someone had to take the blame and it didn't make sense for those of us still around to take it. His career was over. It was a no brainer.
