Growing up 30+ years ago you got Notre Dame and a local acc game of the week usually
Even when ESPN first started you would get a big national double header
If you lived in eastern N.C. you got an affordable ticket and went to watch the Pirates play. Fans were created this way. The Pirates were the only consistent local option
Now I can watch UNC on Thursday, state at noon on a Saturday, duke at 4 and Clemson at 7.
If I want to watch ECU I can find it in ESPN 3 or CBSSN. I’m not locked in. Pirates get down? Oh well flip to another game.
Simply too many entertainment options out there. Oversaturated markets and overstimulated viewers result in underwhelming fandom
(Using “I” meaning avg CFB viewer of today. Personally I’m still diehard ECU. When we’re home my family is there. When we’re on the road, sit down shut up & cheer for the Pirates)
