The idea of it is fantastic for those who make schools

a ridiculous amount of money.

Everyone else will suffer unless the payments are laughably small. Schools that don’t make a meaningful amount of money or don’t make any money will struggle to provide other opportunities. This will morph into other battles where non top 50 schools will be unable to provide many other sports (we’ll see the 17 sport rule go away). Parents will complain their bundles of joy don’t have the same opportunity because their good at another sport that isn’t basketball, football, or baseball.

In the end, there isn’t a way to make this fair and/or easy. College athletics will slowly die because of it. The NCAA will be constantly be in litigations over equal pay.

Good time to be a sports lawyer though.
