For the FBS, I would say do a little different approach than the FCS

this is what I would think, only allow the 10 conference champions to compete in the what should be an authentic playoff, get rid of the Conference championship and go back to 11 games, tell independents like Notre Dame, BYU etc, if you want a shot for the playoffs you better join a conference. The first top 6 teams get a bye week, then 7th ranked team vs 10th ranked, 8 ranked team vs 9th ranked. The 1st place and 2nd place ranked team would play the winner of those two previous week winners, and like the NFL the 1 team would be placed with the lowest ranked winner (in other words if the 10th ranked beat the 7th ranked, 1 vs 10, 2nd place faces the(winner of 8 vs 9), or vice versa if the 7th ranked team wins.

Rank teams based on the computer, SOS etc practically what they have always done (which means sadly P5 will always get 1-5 each time and 1 bye for a G5)

Now, for the rest of the schools who do not win the conference and those who prefer staying independent, continue to keep the bowl games as is.

Or heck, if some conferences still prefer, you can still have a division and a conference championship for the 12th game and the winner of the conference championship gets the autobid.

Won't happen but I think this is the fairest way.
