1. Had we waited another year, we would likely not have hired Scottie Montgomery and would have taken less of a hit on ticket sales and donations.
2. Tell that "unproven coordinator experiments" point of view to Memphis and Cincinnati, the two best programs in the country. They hired coordinators. So did UCF when then went undefeated. Every successful football coach in the country was hired first as an assistant. How's Ohio State doing with their first time head coach? How about Dabo Sweeney? He had never even been a coordinator. How about Steve Logan? How about Lincoln Riley? We don't have to have an experienced HC. And, as far as experience at HC goes, while Mike Houston has been a HC a at lower level, prior to coming to ECU he had never been a coach-at any level-on an FBS school in his life. A good argument can be make that an assistant at a big-time program would be better equipped to take over an FBS team than a HC from a lower level program.
