Is your point that these people chose addiction on their own or someone...

else caused them to become the way they did? Maybe they didn't have solid role models growing up and adults that really cared about their worsening circumstances focused on keeping them on track. I really would like to know more about each individual, what kind of students were they?, were they exposed to church?, did they have after school programs available to them like YMCA? It is pretty clear the family went through some life chapters that made things worse. But just because kids come from dysfunctional environments, it does not mean they are destined for failure and drugs and alcohol abuse. I agree that there are folks out there that legitimately need help due to mental or physical issues but some people are just plain lazy and want to blame others for their circumstances. I am all for helping those that truly need help.
