They have both 10 month and 12 month employees

The 10 month employee only gets paid for 10 months. If they choose to get paid over 12 months, they make less per month. The 12 month employee gets paid the full amount every month. A teacher who is a 12 month employee would teach summer school and do curriculum development or something of that nature until the fall session.

Most teachers are 10 month employees.
