Depends on how tall you are (shaft lengths), hand size (grips), how old you are/swing speed (shaft stiffness) and athletic ability.

If you're between 5' 9" and 6'1" and older than 50 you you most likely start out with regular shafts, standard length and standard grips. Club brand won't matter much at this stage of the game if you are just learning but get a more forgiving club with a larger face. If you're younger than 50 and played baseball or softball you may want stiff shafts. Getting something cheap to start out with is a good idea and Ebay has a lot of selection.

One other word of advice is find a good pro to get your basic swing started so you don't develop bad habits you will have to break later.
