For your last question, the answer is probably one game

The Marshall game. Yes, at times we underperformed under Holtz. We have under every football coach in the history of ECU. That includes Pat Dye. It happens with Nick Saban's Alabama team on occasion.

People's memories do not always go along with the facts. Holtz's offense threw a much larger percentage of 20+ yard passes that LR's did. People used to complain about the bubble screen under Holtz but LR ran it 3 times as much. Also, under Holtz, we had a whole lot of rushing yards meaning they were not 3 yard carries. Dwayne Harris didn't become an offensive threat under LR. He became one with Holtz's offense. The biggest issue with Hotlz's offense was that P. Pinnkey was not very accruate beyond 20 to 25 yards. We kept trying a lot of long passes but they were often incomplete. Yes, Holtz's offense got stopped some. So did LR's, especially in the second half against almost every BCS/P5 team he played with the exception of the 2 UNC blowouts. There were several ACC games where we scored over 20 in the first half and did not score a single point in the second half. How ugly was that? Recall how we had the ball on the 3 yard line against Maryland in the bowl game and we tried 4 pass plays that ended up in nothing. LR moved from the all pass dogma and had a much more balanced offense his last couple of years.

And, this is an imporant point. For everyone who rembers the offensive prowess of during the Logan years, Holtz's teams averaged exactly 1.3 points less a game than Logan's. Which is basically nothing.

Bottom line, Hotlz's offenses and defenses (it was both) got us the only 2 conference championships in school history since Division 1 split. Sadly, there is little optimism that we will ever win another.
