Clemson went all in on football plus 2 key things happened in ACC

1) Bobby Bowden retired from FSU and that place became a bit of a train wreck before and after Jimbo

2) Beamer’s held on a little too long at va tech and that transition was ugly too

Clemson has lingered as one of the top half teams in ACC but while others tried to balance basketball, Clemson pushed all in on football facilities, staff, recruiting, etc. Once football elevated, basketball came close behind after benefiting from the cash cow.

SC has also been a hot mess which helps too.
