A “Good Marketing Campaign?” Been waiting for that for 50 years. LIving


in western NC, I can tell you that our overly Eastern Centric marketing/branding plan has failed us miserably over the years. No news media west of the Triangle gives any coverage whatsoever to ECU. It’s like we don’t exist. Why does ECU accept that? Why doesn’t ECU market our school/brand to a broader NC and region.

ECU is the 3rd largest University in NC (with 3rd largest alumni) yet we get no recognition (Athletically, or otherwise). Seems, if you’re not part of the ACC, you don’t exist. Yes, they have done a remarkable job marketing the ACC. But ECU has done absolutely nothing to counter that. We just accept it! If we want to survive and excel we just can’t continue down this path. We’re not gonna survive/prosper catering solely to eastern NC. We need much broader recognition overall and a much broader base.

Hell, people up my way have no idea who ECU even is, where it’s located, what we offer, how big a school it is, or if we even play sports! This is a Marketing Fail of major proportions and one I will never fully understand! And less, why ECU accepts it.
