That won't last long. There are HS teams in Texas that generate more....


interest than UTSA. They averaged 19,000 in attendance in 2019 (which means they probably averaged 14,000 in the stands). Here's Charlotte's record in FBS:
2015: 2-10
2016: 4-8
2017: 1-11
2018: 5-7
2019: 7-6 (made a bowl)
2020: 2-4
2021: 4-2 thus far
While they would be our only logical rival in the AAC (we've never had one in the AAC so that's somewhat of a plus), I don't see any big interest as they have no particular fan base and no history with ECU whatsoever. I don't see any ECU fans saying they are looking forward to upcoming game with Charlotte.

Adding the Texas teams means nothing from a market perspective because those markets don't care about those Texas teams. I highly doubt there is any water cooler talk in Houston about the Rice game this Saturday or any talk on the Riverwalk about how UTSA is doing.
