We know who the Top 10 are and VT isn't one of them...
They just cant handle the truth. They are a borderline Top 25 program, but as other ACC programs get back up to speed, they are in for plenty of 4-4 ACC campaigns. Pitt, BC, Syracuse are all getting better. Miami and FSU have talent. Wake Forest has a coach and low expectations. NC State, UNC, UVA and GT are middling programs.
VT is in reality no better than most or all of them. Has never been, but had continuity that gave them some consistency. That is no longer the case.
Top 10 programs are Bama, Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon/USC (maybe), Notre Dame, Clemson, Penn State & Texas. Formerly UT, Nebraska, FSU and Miami.
VT should have stuck with Fuente and saved the money. But they became critical, because they think they are Top tier. They aren't.
