Not sure if it was your intent but that does sound a little condescending
but living around Hokies in Richmond that does seem to be the VT way. But yes, I do understand college football and the realities around how bowls have changed my understand of the realities of bowls goes back a long way. I was at ECU back in 83 when we lost to Fla, Miami (National Champs) and Fla St by a total of 12 points, all away games and had an 8-3 record and a 6-5 ND team got the last bid over us. Can't remember if we were in the top 20 (yes it was top 20 back then not 25) that year but were close but now with 6 wins everybody gets in. I see the NCAA approved an extra bowl game this year so no six win teams are left out. As for my understanding of college football? My first game attended was Penn St Pitt in State College Tony Dorsett's first year (so a long time ago) and have been to a lot since including several games at VT. (Best away game experience was at Navy 10 or so years ago). And I also understand how the increase in the number of FBS teams in the SC & NC have impacted recruiting for us and VT etc (harder to get a walk on when Charlotte or ODU wants to pay for their tuition). Do the math on the number of added schollys in the area the last 10 or so years and it may surprise you. What may disqualify me as college football fan is the fact I've never watched the national championship game or playoffs. Just don't care to watch football factory schools and loose sleep on a Monday night (not that it will happen but I would make an exception for ECU of course or GT and UVA having daughters in engineering programs there)
