Vs Memphis, I was in favor of
going ahead & getting the TD whenever we could.
Conventional wisdom (when can we ever afford such luxuries?) may dictate we try to run down another 25-30 seconds before we punch it in. The way we played it gave the advantage to our O, since the Memphis D would not absolutely know when we were about to snap the ball.
The Navy deal was poor clock management. 1st Down at 33 yd line, with 33 ticks left. We take a penalty, & manage 1 play before attempting a career long for Freshman PK. Daffer truly saved him in that sequence.
Vs Marshall, we could have run another 45 seconds or more off the clock.
Clock management is what put our Defense (Marshall & Memphis), & out kicker (Navy) in those precarious situations.
