My son likes to call me Dream Killer :) because I tend to bring up everything that can go wrong. I think I inherited it from my Grandmother. Recently he has been hounding me for a boat. He has this idea of him and his buddies cruising around the marsh and sound areas fishing and doing whatever. I told him no way in heck is that happening. I somewhat trust him, but you get a group a teenage boys together and I remember all too well what me and my buddies did. I worry more about something happening to one of his friends and my liability. I told him if I did not buy a boat in the Virgin Islands I will never own one. I think after 4 years I added it up and I spent about $12k on boat excursions over 4 years. Can sound like a lot but in my mind it was a bargain compared to buying a boat, storing the boat, insurance, upkeep etc.. I had fun for the day, dropped the boat off, filled it up with gas and it was no longer my problem, and my liability was minimal despite all day booze cruises in the BVI's.
