App vs ECU questions and observations

1) Went to the game. First trip to Boone. Impressed with the campus. From best I can tell unless I am missing it, there are no high dollar/income degrees that they have such as medical doctors, lawyers, dental. etc., They have a few notable alumni but that is it. There is no major hospital there or major industries other than tourism. A family member said it didn't look that way 20 years ago when he last went there. How has that university and city grown like they have? Does Tourism feed that much into the university? Apparently they have someone in the legislature on their side too because a lot of the campus I saw was new or recently renovated. That has to be state dollars, not private.
2) The stadium was picturesque but an erector set. Concessions were organized but very limited selection. Stadium PA was a little cheesy and had a weak voice but got them pumped up when necessary. Overall atmosphere was pretty good.
3) 90% of App St fans were nice but there are always a few and for some reason I attact them. Had several conversations where they reminded me of UCF fans...ie...quick rise to success after going D1 and cocky about it. The remaining people we met were awesome, polite and even bought us a few beers. Stadium workers were very nice.
4) Overall a good trip that I would do again.

The game
1) I thought we looked a lot better. That being said, too many turnovers and penalties were the difference. The talent level on the field was equal, just the execution and mistakes.
2) Offense - Hopefully Flinn will learn to not throw down the seam into double coverage. He is a very smart kid. Hope he learns from mistakes and these reps. He needed to throw the balls out & away from the defense. Line looked better but still not opening holes quick enough. RBs appear to be patient but by the time the hole opens, safeties and/or LBs have identified that it is run and fill the hole. Receivers - played better but run blocking needs improvement. Issue is likely because of their size and they are young & need some more time in the weight room. Glad to see Calhoun get involved.
3) Defense - Front 7 played ok. Still are not getting to the QB. Not sure what the issue is there. I did noticed Chas Stephens was held a lot and if not would have 2 or 3 more pressures and a few sacks. DB - had good moments but more bad than good. However, it is not easy to cover someone forever. Again, D-line has to get to QB.
4) Special Teams - overall good. Luke had a very good day.
5) Officials - average at best. Let them play at first and then a few phantom calls on both sides.
