Shame we had to let Donnie go. It was the right decision at the time.
However, he was a great coach with a distinguished career at ECU. And a great Pirate. I really don't think he knew what he was doing as a QB/OC. Houston had him in an untenable situation. He was running Houston's offense, but he should have been able to create innovative plays in that offense. It was similar to what Skip ran.
I think there were tells. Remember the trip to see Lincoln to get some advice. He served under Lincoln for 4 years, He should have been able to teach Lincoln's offense blindfolded. And of course the Manning camp story.
I posted multiple times that we needed to hire a QB coach and move Donnie back to receivers where we excelled under him. With Montgomery on the staff, that would have been possible. I just don't understand it.
Thanks, Donnie for all you did for ECU.
