It is evident Craig has worked hard and has actually improved

tremendously. He is extremely athletic as he is one of the few guys to win the opening tip off of Wichita State. He can jump out of the gym and has great twitch.

Here is the hard part. The game is not slow for him ... it is extremely fast. He has zero touch around the rim and he has hands of stone. He should never be allowed to put the ball on the floor ... he does it often. On top of that ... he has no acumen as it relates to the game of basketball. I can actually find smaller versions of him on most high school teams. He is playing D1 (if you call us that) solely on his insanely athletic build. Man, I wish I were given those physical gifts.

Our big guys need a lot of work learning how to set and seal in the post. They do an extremely poor job. Our guards give up on post entry passes too easily ... I have noticed that Spas does not work hard getting position in the post (maybe it is because he knows they are not going to give it to him it he sets and seals). I have also noticed that our guards do not understand "pass entry angles". For instance, it is very difficult to throw a low post entry pass from the top of the key.

One more thing on Spas ... he has pretty good footwork and shooting touch around the rim. The coaches need to teach him to be in an offensive threat position in the high post instead of running around everywhere and setting picks. I am afraid the only complexity in Lebo's or Perry's offensive system is setting a high pick. You see very limited set plays from our group. I have all ideas it has to do with the intellectual caliber of our guys as it relates to the basketball acumen piece. It is hard to teach more complex plays and structures if guys fail to understand position, setting, sealing, angles, floor spacing, etc.

The new coach has his hands full ... it cannot be Perry, a blind man can see he cannot take us anywhere. He does a good job of getting the guys to play hard for him but that is not enough at a place like ECU. We need a coach and we need a dang good coach! My fear is it will not happen because we just cannot pay for one. We should have been ponying up to pay coaches instead of crying about practice facilities and press box. Maybe that was Lebo's plan from the beginning? "If I get these guys to go in debt for a practice facility then they cannot fire me because I really don't want to work it that hard and I really only know what Dean Smith taught me in the 80s". I doubt a Dean Smith type could be successful at ECU.
